Retail Stores: Craft and Variety - Put Your Talents to Use Making Money

Being part of the retail industry is an exciting way of life for many people who like dealing with the public and providing a service that people need. If you have a talent for making crafts, you can start off with a small craft store in your basement. This type of store is really popular with tourists and among those shopping for gifts, unique items for the home and for clothing. This business opportunity requires low investment - the cost of your business licence and a few shelves and display features. If you make most of the craft articles yourself, you also have to include the cost of your supplies.

With a craft store, you can take in all kinds of crafts that other people make and sell them at a commission. You ask the person who creates the article what price they want to receive for the item and then you add your commission to this amount. You do not have to buy the items because the creator does not get paid until you do. You can also add little items that you pick up at the dollar store or through a catalog and add a commission to increase your profits.

Hand-knit sweaters, quilts and crocheted items are big sellers. You just have to keep the price down and you will sell everything you have. You will find that customers place special orders for particular colors and designs. This assures you of sales and repeat customers, who will return looking for more articles. These customers will also refer their friends to you when they have need of what you sell. You can also take the craft items to trade shows that are held once a twice a year and increase your exposure to the buying public. Flea markets are also a great way to sell craft items and take orders for additional purchases.
