Paralegal Services - Work For a Lawyer

In order to work in this type of business opportunity you need to have special training in order to learn how to do legal research and provide legal support for lawyers. As a student in paralegal studies, you will learn all about courthouse procedures and how to write legal documents. You will also learn how in do the necessary research and investigations that are required. Once you have the training you may be hired by a lawyer's office or if you wish you can avail of a franchise business opportunity to start your own business.

If this is something that interests you, you don't have to give up your current job to enrol in college. Many colleges offer evening and weekend courses and when you complete the program you have a diploma that opens more doors for you to earn higher wages. Although paralegals do not earn high wages like lawyers do, they are up there in the $40,000 to $50,000 categories.

There are firms that specialize in paralegal services for lawyers, so that the lawyers themselves do not have to hire their own legal assistants. If you want to start your own company, you can market your services to several law firms and as you get more work, you will be able to hire other paralegals to work with you. Starting out with a franchise name really helps because you receive support from the main company as well as having the backing of a reputable company that lawyers are familiar with.

In addition to the investment required for the tuition, starting your own firm means you will have to invest in an office and office equipment. You may need to hire a secretary to take calls when you are doing investigative work, although just starting out you will probably be only working on one or two cases. To be competitive you need to look at the salary paid to paralegals, plus the costs of the health benefits. Once lawyers see how much money they can save by acquiring your services you will find yourself very busy.
