Pre-Employment Screening Service for Those who Don't Have Time
The demand for people who can assist businesses with pre-employment screening is growing as more and more businesses have to do detailed background checks on prospective employees. You can start your own business with low investment because basically all you need is good interviewing skills and the ability to do detailed research. Companies sometimes are limited in the questions that they can ask in an interview. If they ask a question and the answer means that the person being interviewed does not get the job, they could be sued for discrimination. They prefer to pass the job over to independent contractors who will interview the applicants and research the information presented on the resumes.
You charge the company a fee for each person you interview and get back to them with a short list of the top candidates for the job. The matter may take you several weeks or several days depending on the job and the number of applicants. Sometimes, the company will screen the applications and you only have to interview a select few or you may have to go through the applications and choose the best applicants to interview.
Avoiding a discrimination suit is not the only reason that companies want to outsource this part of their business. Taking time to schedule interviews takes executives and owners away from the main focus of their jobs and could affect the productivity of the company. Acquiring your services as a pre-employment screening counsellor is also a lot cheaper for the company than having someone on staff do the job.
Basically the only equipment you would have to buy is a computer and printer. You will have to know how to get criminal record checks and you may have to have a licence to do this. Other than that, if you have good people skills and know how to do research you should be able to make a good living in this type of business.
