All the major department stores have the basic supplies that people need for clothing and home décor. A specialty store is a niche within that sector that fills a particular need that consumers have. You can take advantage of this business opportunity by opening up a retail store that caters to a certain section of the market, either on your own or under a franchise business opportunity.

You do need to have start-up capital to get into this type of business. You also need to do preliminary research to find a product that people need and want to buy. Once you have the type of product that is needed, then you start looking for wholesalers that can supply you with the product as cheaply as possible so that you can increase your profit margin. The profits you realize from each sale have to be high enough to pay all your overhead costs and pay you a salary as well.

You can start an Internet retail store, with low investment because you do not need to rent any property or have employees. You can run the business from your home as a mail order business. Select a specific product that consumers want to buy and market the product through your website. You need to have photos and descriptions of the products as well as order forms where customers can place their order and pay for it at the same time. Your site needs to be secure so that customers will be able to safely provide you with the credit card information. Once you receive the order, you simply send it off to the customer and pocket the profit.

One thing that you have to be careful of with this type of business opportunity is that you need to make sure that the product is something that a lot of customers want to buy. You will not realize any large amount of profit with an item that does not sell very well.
