Business Opportunities · Buying a BusinessDecide What You Want in a BusinessBUYING A BUSINESSThere are many different ideas that people have about what is the most important aspect of searching for a business opportunity. Only one of them, however, stands far above the rest. And what is the most important part of the business opportunity search? Essentially, it involves deciding what exactly it really is that you want. That's why we've compiled a few of the most helpful questions we can think of in order to steer you in the right direction. So before picking up the phone, doing an online search or checking out your first business opportunity trade show, be sure you have a clear answer to all of the following questions: What are you going to get out of the business opportunity? The initial response that comes flying out of the more frank entrepreneurs will undoubtedly be resoundingly the same. Money. Indeed, why else would somebody invest a few thousand dollars, plus a few years of their time (at the very least) to a project that would not place them at an economic advantage? Yet once you've established, unabashedly, that you really are in it for the money, it's time to think about this question a little further. That's because, contrary to what many people may tell you, there's more than just money that you will end up getting out of the business opportunity. In fact, if that's all you seek to get out of it, it is quite possible that you will be more susceptible to failure. Why? It's a basic rule of human nature. We require more than money just to feel good about ourselves. We need achievement. Indeed, in order for your business opportunity to succeed, you need to want that thrill of accomplishment when you see the money rolling in. You need to believe in your product, believe that it is improving other peoples lives and adding value to the economy. This may sound like a tall order, but time and time again the same rule applies - someone who could care less about what he or she is selling has a consistently less successful track record than the individual who truly believes in the product - or the operation - that he or she is undertaking. So when it comes time to decide what you want to get out of your business opportunity package, try to think not just about money but about the process of becoming successful. From there you can begin the search for a package that would truly motivate you. Another important question is this: how much time do you have? All too often, entrepreneurs in search of the business opportunity forget to make this simple calculation until much later in the game. In order to avoid this, it is highly advisable that you figure out right away whether you are looking for a full time business opportunity or just a part time gig. Do you have another job to balance? Are you in need of a paycheck until you can start turning a profit? Don't get caught trying to figure all of this out in the middle of a sale. Chances are that making such a decision on the fly - with the "help" of an eager sales person - won't be the wisest undertaking. Another important aspect in deciding what you want from a business opportunity involves the actual substance of the work that you will be engaging in. For instance, before you pick on an online sales and marketing business opportunity, ask yourself if this is really what you would be interested in doing? Perhaps you'd prefer much more an out-and-about style of business opportunity where you are checking up on vending machines. The choice is yours - you decide. |
